Software Engineer (Intern)

Sequence Holdings

ABOUT SEQUENCE We are in the midst of the intelligence revolution. In some industries, a startup will emerge from this period as a leader. In others, the incumbent will be vastly advantaged. We believe the opportunity is exponential when existing competitive attributes are paired with the power of AI. Sequence acquires ambitious, established enterprises in the service economy and refounds them as market leaders. We bring capital, engineering and operational expertise to each business we partner with. Our engineers work shoulder to shoulder with management teams to reimagine their business around what is now possible with AI. We rebuild operations, workflows, products and services from the ground up. At the center is Atlas, our proprietary technology platform, which is deployed across every Sequence company. What we build and learn from one business strengthens Atlas for the next, creating a compounding advantage that accelerates every new refounding. We elevate, not replace, human talent and judgment. We build and expand businesses to define what's possible for their industries. Sequence is based in New York City and backed by 8VC, Conviction, Lux Capital and other strategic partners. THE ROLE Engineering interns at Sequence work on the same problems as the full-time team — there are no intern projects here. You'll deploy into our operating companies to rebuild real workflows with AI, and build the platform infrastructure that makes every future transformation faster. You'll ship production systems that real operators depend on daily, and contribute to Atlas — the agent infrastructure, data systems, and developer tools that make the refounding motion repeatable across the portfolio. REQUIREMENTS - Exceptional builder. Can turn ambitious ideas into simple, reliable products. - Demonstrated track record of impressive academic, professional, or entrepreneurial accomplishments. - Raw horsepower and tenacity. Will run through walls to deliver results. - Proven ability to build from zero to one. - Strong communicator. Can explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience and translate operator frustrations into system designs. - Comfortable with ambiguity. Can figure out what to build first when nothing is well-defined. - Genuine interest in how real businesses operate — not just the technology, but the people and the problems worth solving. OUR VALUES - Earned Luck: We do not control markets, competition, timing, or chance. We control whether we are ready when they turn our way. Effort and preparation are the only variables entirely up to us, and we leave nothing on the table. Do the work before it is needed, at the highest standard. We are a small team going after massive opportunities: outwork everyone. - Ownership: You are an owner of Sequence. Act like it. Treat our spaces and our money as your own; they are. Take pride in the work you ship. No task is beneath you, no detail too small. The small things compound. - Long-Term Thinking: We are a permanent holding company: no fund clock, no exit to manage toward. That structure only works if we think the same way. Hold direction through good cycles and bad. Pay the short-term tax on the investments that compound. Always ask: what puts us on the steepest slope three years from now? - Intellectual Honesty: The best idea wins, regardless of who says it. Debate openly; push back regardless of hierarchy. Share credit generously; take responsibility collectively. When we are wrong, we say so immediately, extract the lesson, and move on. Concealing mistakes is unacceptable. - Customer-Centric: We have two customers: our portfolio companies, and the customers they serve. We succeed only when our customer’s customer does. Our job is to make our operating companies better at serving theirs. - Stewardship: We inherit decades of someone else's work and trust. Respect it, understand it, then build on it. The goal is to make it the best it has ever been. - Integrity: Our currency is trust. Everything we want comes through reputation: the next deal, the next hire, the next capital partner. Do the right thing, especially when no one is watching; reputation compounds faster than revenue and cannot be rebought.
